Ocean WatersThe late Dr. D. James Kennedy, a scuba diver himself, once illustrated how divers may not be able to see past the choppy surface prior to entering the water. But once they jump in there is a new clarity, and the beauty of the fish and reefs emerge. Friends, today life seems choppy on the surface, the water may look dark, and the boat is certainly tossing and turning. But once you take that "giant stride" into the water the surface becomes hardly an issue. Underwater it is calm and clear, and the beauty of God is apparent.

Figuratively, it takes faith to jump into the choppy, murky, dark blue water. It is jumping into the unknown. Is what's underwater worse or better than what the surface looks like? For many the fear of the unknown prevents them from jumping in. For those who have been underwater the surface conditions are a temporary inconvenience, for they know what splendor lies below.

My friends, just as a reef is beautiful, dynamic, balanced, poetic, ordered, peaceful and full of splendor - so is the Word of God! These are the times when, on the surface, life seems turbulent, chaotic and dark that we need to jump into Scripture. In the Bible we will find the beautiful, dynamic, balanced, poetic, ordered, peaceful, splendorous, inspired and infallible words to guide us through life, and give us that faith to see past the surface and know that God is at work below.
